My Thoughts on the Grammys
January 27, 2014
So, tonight was the Grammys and to be honest it was kind of what was expected. No surprises in who one the awards, some great performances and some ones that were in my opinion just plain boring and forgettable. I missed the beginning and didn’t get to see Jay-Z and Beyonce perform. I came in during LL Cool J’s terrible monologue and began to wonder why he was even chosen as a host, and my opinion didn’t get any better as the night went on.
Lorde did an amazing rendition of her hit Royals. Katy Perry had a phenomenal stage presentation for Dark Horse. Pink had an amazing acrobatic act at the beginning of her performance. Imagine Dragons and Kendrick Lamar was fantastic and got my vote for favorite performance of the night ending their performance getting shot with paint cannons. Paul McCartney showed he’s still got it and even allowed Ringo to share the stage with him, even after showing earlier in the night that he should probably retired from music.
Seeing the Highway Men back on stage with Blake Sheldon and Merle Haggard filling in for the members who have passed was a real treat for me as a fan of real country music. Seeing Daft punk on stage with some legends and current stars was something special that most people watching won’t even get. Metalica blew me away with a new rendition of One, which is one of my all time favorite songs. Macklemore had a great performance until Madonna, who looked like she got hit by a bus, came out and ruined it. The unlikely pairing of Miranda Lambert and Billy Joel gave an amazing tribute to the Everly Brothers.
Daft Punk was the big winners of the day, which it’s about time that electronic music take home some of the big awards.
I know I skipped some performances and those were the ones that were either to boring to terrible to mention. As I mentioned earlier Ringo was terrible and gets my award for the worst performance of the night!
